        CODE FOR RECORDING IN CLASSES

In accordance with the Code of Conduct, U3A Central Gold Coast aims to provide a safe and supportive environment for all members. To this end, the use of voice and image recording equipment during class sessions; including tablets, smart phones and watches; is not permitted, except as outlined below.

1. Recording by Tutors for Official U3A Central Gold Coast Media Outlets
  • Class tutors may request permission from class members; collectively or individually; to make a record of class activities for inclusion in official U3A Central Gold Coast media outlets, including Newsletter, web site and social media channels.
  • The tutor will inform all members at the beginning of the class if recording is to take place, and at the start of the recording process.
  • Any member who does not wish to be included in the recording, whether image or voice, should inform the tutor of their wish and the tutor will take necessary steps to ensure that this wish is met.

2. Voice Recording by Individual Members for Personal Use
  • An individual member may request permission to make a voice recording of a class where they provide evidence of health and/or medical reasons in support of class inclusion and personal learning and development.
  • Permission for voice recording must be obtained in advance, and the class tutor must notify the Tutor Coordinator with details of the approval.
  • Any recordings made are for personal use only and must not be shared with others by any means, including duplication or posting on any social media.
  • Where an individual is granted permission for voice recording, all class members must be informed of this by the class tutor (without reference to the specific reasons).
  • Any other class member can request that they be specifically excluded from being identified in the recording, and the individual making the recording will ensure compliance with any such request.

3. Other Recordings for Personal Use
  • Where any individual or group wishes to have a personal record of their engagement in any U3A Central Gold Coast class activity, this must be done outside of the official session times, as a “reenactment”.
  • The involved individuals are responsible for ensuring that any such recording does not include any other individuals who are not part of the consenting group.
  • Where any recording is in breach of Items 1) or 2), the recording must be deleted immediately.

We trust that all members will adhere to these simple rules to ensure that other members can feel secure and supported in their learning, social and recreational activities.
