U3A Broadbeachis a non-profit incorporated association on the Gold Coast of Queensland, Australia, 90 kilometres south of Brisbane. Our mission is to provide life long learning for people aged over fifty, without any entry requirements or examinations. It is the philosophy of University of the Third Age which developed in Toulouse, France in 1973 and has since spread around the world. There are 180 U3A clubs in Australia, 30 in Queensland. All are autonomous with volunteers running classes in a wide variety of subjects. We also have social activities for members. Our base is Merrimac State High School at Mermaid Waters, adjoining Broadbeach, 4 kilometres south of Surfers Paradise. Most of our activities are there.
