Another term will soon be upon us and l can sense you are straining on the leash. Ladies who have already strayed from New Year's diet resolutions may take comfort from a recent study's finding that women who carry a little extra weight live longer than men who mention it.There is much good news to report. Basic Computing rides again We are delighted to announce that a new member, Beatriz Del Rosario, who is an experienced tutor, has expressed her interest in leading a course on Basic Computing, covering such topics as emails, the internet and Word. She will be holding classes at Nerang library. The plan is for there to be courses consisting of 8 weekly 2 hour sessions with a maximum of 8 participants. Classes will be held each Friday 3.30 to 5.30 pm commencing the 4th of March except for 25th March and 29th April. Those wishing to attend should have their own windows laptop. Beatriz would also welcome anyone with computing skills who would be willing to work with her as an assistant tutor. Members interested should email [email protected] iPad, uPad, wePad The iPad is a device that has for many people made accessible the world of computing and the Internet. Were you fortunate enough to get an iPad for Christmas or do you already own one and would like to learn more about what it can do? There are two new iPad courses coming up. Both courses will cover the basics of the iPad and then go on to show some neat tips and tricks to impress your grandchildren and others. People who have already attended previous courses are welcome if they feel they would like a refresher. These courses will be 2 hours long and and run one day a week for 3 weeks. Course 1 Wednesdays 2, 9, 16 March 10 to 12 am Course 2 Fridays 1, 8, 15 April 10 to 12 am Please contact Linda Crittenden by email at [email protected] if you would like to attend one of the courses indicating which dates you would prefer and how long you have owned an iPad. |
Less stress It is pleasing to report that the new Stress Management course has attracted interest and will commence this term led by Julie Kuiters. The classes will be held on Thursdays 9 to 10.30 in room O2. There are some spaces still available so if you would like to attend please email Julie at [email protected] Sunset for the Rising Sun It cannot all be good news and there will be no further Japanese classes following the resignation of the tutors,Yuki and Terri Terajima. We extend our thanks to them for having provided this learning opportunity and our best wishes for the future. Gentle reminder Don't forget Sign On day for new and yet to renew members is on this Friday 12th February 10-12 am at Merrimac State High School in the Hospitality Suite. There will be a number of tutors attending to give you an insight into their courses. Small Change Please note the AGM to be held on the 24th March is now rescheduled to start at 9.30am rather than 10am. The process for U3A Broadbeach Committee nomination was detailed in the January newsletter. Nomination forms will be available from the U3A office but for convenience a blank form is attached to this newsletter. |
