Fire and Emergency Evacuation
In the event of an emergency, due to a fire or some other cause, all members must be fully aware of the correct procedures to minimise the risk of danger or injury to themselves and others.
All members must be familiar with the following:
Arrival of Emergency Services
Police/Emergency Services are to be directed to the tutor. The tutor is to provide a brief of the situation and
relinquish control of the critical incident to Police/Emergency Service Personnel.
All Clear
When the threat is over, the tutor will advise if and when it is safe to return to the venue after receiving clearance from the Police/Emergency Service Personnel.
A report of the incident will be prepared by the tutor and given to the U3A Broadbeach committee.

- Each venue will have its own evacuation details posted on the venue wall, usually near the exits.
- As soon as an alarm is raised, all members must STOP WORK, STAND and EVACUATE immediately to an assembly point outside the venue.
- The tutor of the class will give instructions for the orderly evacuation from the building via the closest exit.
- Members must WALK and not RUN or RUSH to an assembly point outside the venue.
- Everyone MUST evacuate. There are NO EXCEPTIONS. Any member with a disability may need to be helped.
- The tutor, or someone authorised by the tutor, is to phone Police/Emergency services if required on 0 0 0.
- Account for all occupants at the assembly point.
- If any people are missing conduct a search without placing anyone in danger.
