The second U3A meeting of the year at Griffith University is fast approaching. It will be held on Friday, 6 July. There will be two presentations,as follows:
Griffith University's 2018 Annual Appeal campaign (5 – 10 minutes)
Learn about Griffith University’s Annual Appeal campaign that looks to help students who are excelling at their studies despite facing personal or financial hardship. I've heard Karen speak before and it is real eye-opener and inspiring to hear how some young people are so determined to succeed even when faced with significant adversity.
Presented by Mrs Karen Scott, Direct Marketing Manager from the Development and Alumni Office, Griffith University.
Queensland’s Indigenous War Memorial (30-40 minutes)
Many thousands of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander service men and women have fought for our country from the Boer War onwards. A common passion and love for this country is where differences were set aside and cultures were united. Unfortunately the stories of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander diggers are rarely acknowledged in the fabric of Australian history.
The ATSIDMQI (Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Dedicated Memorial Queensland Incorporated) committee has been formed to ensure that the sacrifices of these men and women are recognised and these heroes are honoured. ATSIDMQI has been formed with the support of Griffith University, to facilitate the establishment of a memorial that commemorates the sacrifices made by these heroes.
Presented by Mrs Lorraine Hatton, ATSIDMQI Co-Chair (full bio attached) and Mr Allan McLardy, Development Manager – Arts, Education and Law, Development and Alumni Office, Griffith University.
The lecture venue is the usual room, G34_1.05/1.06 and the schedule will be:
2:00pm Tea, Coffee, Water and Biscuits/ Muffins provided
2:10pm: Welcome & Lecture Introduction by Dr Andrew Bode
2:15 pm Presentation by Guest Lecturers
3:00pm Question time
3.15pm Close of lecture
The tram is the best way to travel to the University as the Griffith University/Griffith University Hospital stop is close to our venue. If unable to utilise the tram, check out the University's website for parking information.
Please let me know if you plan to attend so I can advise the university of numbers for catering purposes. Regards
