Here are the details of the lecture at Griffith University on 27 March. The meeting venue is The Leneen Forde Chancellery Building (G34_1.05/1.06) and the schedule is:
2:00pm Tea, Coffee, Water and Muffins provided
2:10pm Welcome & Lecture Introduction by Dr Andrew Bode
2:15pm Presentation by Guest Lecturer
3:00pm Question time
3.15pm Close of lecture
The presenter is Professor Darryl Jones, Deputy Director, Environmental Futures Research Institute and School of Environment and Science.
Professor Jones is a behavioural ecologist now working in urban and road ecology with a particular interest in the many ways humans interact with and understand nature.
Lecture title: What happens when we feed wild birds?
As Australia recovers from natural disasters, with drought and bushfires destroying swathes of land across the country, many people are wondering how they can help native animals caught up in the aftermath. But the question of whether it is ever OK to feed native animals, is a controversial topic that is highly divisive among conservationists. To help people through this dilemma, Griffith University Environmental Science Professor Darryl Jones has written a new book, Feeding the Birds at Your Table, as a guide to what is nutritionally appropriate for native animals, and what foods to avoid.
Note: Darryl will bring some of his books along for sale in case there is interest on the day.
Please let me know if you plan to attend so I can advise the University of numbers for catering purposes, preferably via my personal email [email protected]
For those who have not attended a Griffith University lecture before, the best way to travel there is via the G:Link tram. Get off at the Gold Coast University Hospital stop but exit using the lift or stairs at the opposite side to the hospital. G34 building is close to the exit, just across the small internal uni road. If you plan to come by car, check the University's website for parking options.
