“I am still learning” Michelangelo at 87 A Happy New Year to everyone. Just think what Michelangelo might have achieved if he had belonged to a U3A. Out For Lunch ? Before we launch off into the future we should express our thanks to Robyn for a very successful Christmas lunch that was enjoyed by so many members. Please note that Robyn has advised that forthcoming lunches will be held on 2nd Friday of each month. starting February 9th - venue yet to be advised. Magical Mystery Tours Robyn always comes up trumps here too so it is pleasing to inform you that Coach Excursions will be bi - monthly starting late March - date and destination yet to be advised. Then - May, July, Sept and November. On Good Terms I am sure you are looking forward to the recommencement of our activities and that you will want to enter the following U3A term dates in your diary:- Term one :February 19th- March 29th (this is a very short term due to an early Easter this year)Term Two: April 17th-June 29th Term Three: July 16th-September 21st Term Four: October 8th- December 7th A Class Act Well done to our President, Marie Mooney, and Susan Bell, Deputy Principal of Merrimac State High School for sorting out class rooms and times so promptly this year. These are shown on the Timetable on the Website. Sign Time Enrolment Day will be held in the Hospitality Room at Merrimac State High School on Friday 2nd February from 10:00 am until noon. |
AGM /Recruitment and election of Committee Members
It is likely that the Annual General Meeting will be held at 10.30 a.m. on Thursday 22nd March in the Hospitality Room of Merrimac State High School but this will be confirmed nearer the time. All members are welcome - so please come. Here is your chance to learn how your U3A is progressing and to get to know current and prospective Committee members We are looking for new committee members who can inject our U3A with their ideas and enthusiasm so please do not hesitate to come forward. All positions are to be declared vacant and existing members who wish to continue to serve and any other members who would like to be part of the running of their U3A should nominate themselves or get a friend to nominate them before Wednesday 14th March. Nomination forms will be available from the U3A office. Still Paddling In 2018 we will be running the following sessions for the iPad 1 Introduction to the iPad - For people who are considering taking the plunge and purchasing an iPad and are not sure. This will be a one off 2 hour session where you can learn what the iPad can do and ask questions in order to decide if it is for you. If there are sufficient numbers this will be run in April or May. 2 Getting the most from your iPad - For people who already have an iPad. This will cover the iPad in general and its main features, in addition it will cover the new features added by Apple with its release of the latest operating system iOS 11 and may be of interest to people who have been on previous iPad courses. Your iPad will need to be on the iOS 11 version of the operating system to attend this course. This course will be 3 sessions of 2 hours each to be run from May. |
3 Facebook/Managing Photos on your iPad - For people who have been on previous iPad courses or who are confident iPad users. This course will be run as 2 separate 2 hour sessions and covers:
- The basics of Facebook and some of the neat things it can do - How to manage your Photos using the Photos application, covering organising and editing your photos. This course will be run later in the year. All sessions are run off site at the trainer's home as it is necessary to have Internet access which is not possible at Merrimac School. Please email Linda ([email protected]) letting her know which course(s) you would like to attend. Babel Able Our language tutors Joelle and Silvain Repoux have once more offered to take classes in Arabic, Portuguese and Brazilian. Anyone interested should contact them on 0450 130 250. Griffith Lectures Dates will be determined shortly and then will be advised . Indonesian For Travellers Please note this course has had to be postponed due to family commitments but may be introduced later in the year.
