June 2018 Newsletter
If you want to go fast, go alone. If you want to go far, go together.” African Proverb Thanks for the Memory Our Broadbeach U3A anniversary celebrations are approaching and there can be no doubt that we have come a long way together over the last 25 years. You will be aware that to mark this we are currently compiling a 25th Anniversary Book. Members who would like to contribute anything in the form poems, accolades, memories etc should please email these to [email protected] by mid- July at the latest. September Super Silver Celebration Week End The above book is but one of the ways in which we will be marking our first 25 years. The Anniversary Committee is following Abraham Lincoln’s sage advice :- “Give me six hours to chop down a tree and I will spend the first four sharpening the axe.” But while plans are still under development we can reveal the following:- 7th, 8th and 9th September 2018 are earmarked for the following celebration events so please note these in your diaries. Friday 7th : Meet and Greet with drinks and complimentary finger food at the Hospitality Room @ Merrimac High School, 4pm to 6pm. Saturday 8th : A surprise (yet to be announced) afternoon Social Event from 1.30pm to 4pm. Sunday 9th : THE MAIN EVENT : Lunch at midday at a beautiful venue (yet to be announced) including entertainment. Look out in due course for your Invitation and the final programme. |

We have between 6 and 12 members every Friday (some are travelling of course !) and its always a very lively and interesting discussion group. Talking the Walk Any member is very welcome to join our Tuesday walking group from 9am to 10am at the western end of Poinciana Boulevard for a wonderful walk in the fresh air through a lovely park with like minded walkers. Its a great social hour with different levels of walking speeds. We walk every Tuesday of the year unless it is torrentially raining. We normally have between 6 and 10 each Tuesday walking in the sunshine. Gene Genie A special word of thanks to Lyn Gibson whose recently completed Genetics course has been much appreciated by participants who have been greatly impressed by the work she put into presenting the course and providing back up notes. Life long learning at its best. Well done. |
About Face
iPad Facebook Sessions are currently on hold. Following the security issues exposed by the Cambridge Analytic revelations, Facebook is now in the process of enhancing its security settings in order to ensure that this doesn’t happen again. It has been decided this should be covered in the course and until the mist clears and we know what Facebook is changing it has been decided to delay this course but do not worry for it is not being cancelled. “All music is folk music. I ain't never heard a horse sing a song.” Louis Armstrong A Concerted Effort Last year l was touched by how many members came to give me support for my concert performance at Broadbeach Seniors. I am pleased to say that l have been invited to play there again on Thursday 2nd August 1pm to 2 pm at Broadbeach Seniors Citizen Centre, T.E.Peters Drive, Broadbeach 4218. A flyer for the concert is attached and l will be delighted if you can come. In the meantime we look forward to our Christmas on July 12th. Have great break and come back reinvigorated for the start of our next term on 16th July. John Crittenden Publicity Officer |
