Class description
The aim of this class is to engage participants in a circle or open circle formation in dancing together for inner and outer peace and harmony. All dances are already choreographed and easily and quickly taught at the beginning of each dance. This is not a free dance class, nor do you need a partner. Central to this class is an ability and openness to join with others in a creative, and inclusive space where music and movement are integral. The music sources for this class come from cultures and music genres of every kind, from folk dance sources, classical or sacred sources, and from contemporary and world music. There are dances from Europe, North America, Indigenous cultures, Celtic cultures and from East Asian and Indian cultures, and participants need to be open to cross cultural influences. In a peace dancing class what is valued is the opportunity for inner peace and collective harmony in the circle. There are slow and meditative dance movements, as well as more energetic dances. There may be an occasional faster dance but faster dances are rare in this class, in order to accommodate care of our bodies as we age. Participants need to wear comfortable clothing, including firm shoes, and to bring water or juice for the break. Dancing together in a circle is good for our bodies and has the capacity to engage us holistically.
The dates for this coming term will be October 5, 12, 19, 26. If these 4 sessions work out and people want to continue, then further sessions may be put in place.
Anyone interested in opting for these classes should contact Judith Keller by phoning her on 0448188937or emailing her at [email protected].
