Why should we play Scrabble?
Scrabble as we know it today was imagined in the 1930’s but it wasn’t until the 1950’s that the game we know today was licenced, manufactured and marketed, quickly evolving to be an international success.
So why play Scrabble? There is a misconception that only “word smart people either play or should play Scrabble. The benefits of playing are many. Medical research proves that this is a game from which everyone can benefit, particularly older people.
Scrabble provides the social benefits of spending quality time with family and friends either face-to-face or at a distance. (Check the Scrabble Apps for Tablets and the iPad.) Mental activity through spelling, vocabulary extension, maths., and the strategic manipulation of letters are all highly beneficial.
Emotionally we benefit as we identify improved skills through regular involvement, every move provides opportunities to develop, establish or practice new skills.
